  • 4-5 apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons apricot jam (optional, for glazing)

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. 2. In a food processor, combine the flour and sugar. Add the diced cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3. /Add the egg yolk and cold water to the mixture and pulse until the dough comes together. If the dough is too dry, add more water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  4. 4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. 5. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Trim any excess dough.
  6. 6. Arrange the sliced apples in a concentric circle on top of the pastry crust, slightly overlapping.
  7. 7. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the apples.
  8. 8. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the apples.
  9. 9. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. 10. If desired, heat the apricot jam in a small saucepan until melted, then brush it over the warm tart for a shiny glaze.
  11. 11. Allow the tart to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
