Classic Swedish Meatballs

A Swedish classic and everyone's favorite – meatballs! Perfect for anything from dinner to appetizers! Easy to customize with different spices and accompaniments. A favorite recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 dl milk
  • 5 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 500 g ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 1/2 yellow onion, peeled and grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • Butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Mix breadcrumbs and milk in a bowl. Let it swell for a few minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef or a mix of beef and pork with the grated onion, egg, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  3. Add the milk and breadcrumb mixture to the meat mixture. Mix well until it forms a smooth batter.
  4. Shape small meatballs with your hands.
  5. Melt butter or margarine in a frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Fry the meatballs until they are cooked through and have a nice golden brown color on the surface.
  7. Serve the meatballs with lingonberry sauce and boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes.
